Express-project is a scientifically grounded plan of research in a certain field of science. Trainers choose the subjects of the projects and the tasks to be completed while implementing them ( they may do it on their own or ask their scientific advisers for help) and then, if necessary, get additional consultations from experts.
In the framework of the International Research School the trainers lead and supervise the work of their project groups. The projects are supposed to be completed within 5 days and then presented to a committee of experts.
An express-project has to meet the following requirements:
- its subject has to have a real scientific value
- it needs to be comprehencible enough for 14-17 year old students, who are supposed to carry it out
- the tasks should be interesting to perform
- the project development should require data collection and analysis
The trainers have to be aware of the following:
- how to organise experimental work
- how to prepare a step-by-step plan to be able to complete the projects within 5 days
- how to properly arrange work in a team ( the tasks are supposed to be equally distributed among all the participants in the group)
- how to make a presentation ( the participants are supposed to create computer presentations of their projects to make their speeches before the experts more illustrative)
Express-projects could be of different levels of complexity. Trainers estimate the complexity levels of their projects and - thus - the requirements to the participants' age and knowledge in advance.
